Who needs a subconscious?
If you are badly in need of a laugh (which, at the moment, I'm), this should do it. Inexpressible thanks to the lovely Ampersand Duck for putting me on to this hysterically funny site about the perils of predictive text and auto-correct thingies. Is it my imagination or does the iPhone have an anal fixation? Have a look at some of the things it 'corrects' to. Talk about the return of the repressed.
There are up to a dozen new ones a day, as with LOLcats. I've added a link under 'Funnies' in the sidebar.
The most cheering thing about this site is actually not the larfs, but the reassurance that human intimacy is alive and well and living in our electronic toys. Some of these conversations reveal such affection, humour, goodwill and deep knowledge of each other that it gives you hope for the planet.
That is just too good. I think this is my favourite:

Oh yes -- the first reply is priceless. I spent about half an hour on this site last night and hurt myself laughing.
ReplyDeleteYou're right about the depth of connectivity that people can achieve online. I believe most deeply in humans' ability to connect using whatever means they have - it's like a compulsion - and of course some of these connections will mean more than others. I get so irritated with the pontificating about the shallowness of relationships on the net - how facebook friends aren't 'real' friends for example - well, no, not all of them right now, but they might come to be - who knows? Or that teens spend all day testing. There was a time when we'd have spent all day on the phone *if our parents had let us*. When half the people that you deal with every day don't know what to say to you if you have a bereavement, is that a sign that your f-t-f relationships aren't 'real'?.
ReplyDeleteAnd now I'm off to look at the site.
Priceless. I spend my life apologising for what my autocorrect writes.
ReplyDeleteMan, from the person who hoped the directions to the hospital would reach the parents before the baby "dies" (does) to the person who had a bad day at work cause a co worker would not lend her/him a penis (pen), I nearly damaged myself I laughed so much. Of course there is an incestuous streak running through these so my fave horrific all time in my worst nightmare auto correct would have to be this:

Seriously. It gets no more primal than that birth canal cleaning, does it?
So glad you like it. I was laughing so hard at it that my son, who's been worried about me being weak and wan and ill all week, nearly rang an ambulance, thinking I was having some kind of attack. Funnily enough, he wasn't as interested in it as I thought he would be when I showed him the cause of my mirth, which I realise is a big relief, because the whole site assumes a degree of sexual knowledge that he obviously doesn't have yet :)
ReplyDeleteI'll have to show him again in a few years and see what he laughs at... good litmus test!
I have a group of friends who always send uncorrected predictive texts... it's quite a fun game! I got a new phone last year with handwriting recognition, in stead, which has its own peculiar errors.
ReplyDeleteI think my favourite is the story (apparently new) about the early days of speech-recognition software, which "heard" 'It's hard to recognise speech' as 'It's hard to wreck a nice beach.'
ReplyDeleteLOL
