Mind your Qs

After almost 20 years of fearing it, late last year it finally ha ened: I ti ed a glass of wine straight into the com uter keyboard. Had to lug the old iMac keyboard into the less old eMac. And now the key between the O and the square and curly brackets is sticking on this keyboard as well.

I've been meaning to buy a new com uter for ages now, u grade my internets, that kind of thing, but I think the gods are now sending me little messages to hurry u with it.

Sticking with A le, of course, but might move on from the deskto and get one of the la to s. It would be leasant and convenient to have something ortable.

Bleah. hate this kind of thing.

But if you think about a laptop, think about getting a big display screen you can plug it into. That way you have the benefits of portability while also protecting your neck when you are at the desk.

Bullseye. Fifty points to me.

so funny...I have just had a conversation about the very same thing..pouring wine into my keyboard, which has resulted, amazingly, in the loss of the control key only.

But sometimes others decide to have a rest too. For some reason, it's usually "e".

get a lappytop and a nice stand for it. I LOVE my laptop.

Heh, all. Stephanie, excellent advice, am adding it to my BUY COMPUTER SOON list.

Fifi: 'pouring wine into my keyboard, which has resulted, amazingly, in the loss of the control key only.'

Yes, I've found over the years that pouring the wine often results in loss of one's control key. Fifty more points to the alliterative anthropomorph there.

Ditto about the screen if you can afford. You don't have to buy a Mac screen - a cheaper one will do just as well. I have a bog standard hp one at work.

Ditto about the screen and maybe even (dare I say it?) a keyboard. For extended use the position of your body will make a difference. Keyboards are about $80.

That's a real ain. I hate it when I s ill my wine - such a waste!

Shame about the keyboard too.

Well, without the letter 'p' functioning, 'prose' would become 'rosey'. Then again, a 'prank' would be 'rank'.

There are ros and cons, ositives and negatives. It's hard to know where recisely it would all end up.

It's worth getting an external drive for backups, too. Time Machine works well and a 500GB drive can be had for cheap. That way when the cat knocks a glass of wine into your 3-month old MacBook Pro you have somewhere to start.

Yes time machine is pretty cool. If you buy one, be sure to get an external harddrive that turns on with your computer, rather than one that you have to turn on separately. Otherwise you may not turn it on often enough...

Or, at least, I didn't...
