I think you are posing the wrong question PC. I think the pertinent question is, 'What has the ALP done?' And will Shorten, Feney and Arbib now benefit from the decision to install Gillard, if she gets thrown on the scrap heap? I want them to face some consequences.

Anthony, my experience of rebates is that they are never near the total outlay. Getting 3 children to school should not cost any parents $1500 for clothes.

On the whole, the voters have in fact moved to the left -- as the result of which we will probably end up being run by the Spanish Inquisition, because of the way the numbers fell. This should not be possible, and yet is. And the leader of the Spanish Inquisition got there by one vote, because the moderate Liberals couldn't count, and because they, like so much of the nation, thought it was possible to 'teach X a lesson' by not voting for X, thinking that in boycotting X they were still somehow magically immune from the corollary: the victory of Y.
The whole country should be forced to study Logic 101. In primary school.

I concede your point totally, and believe that voting, and breeding and driving Rights need/should be subject to passing a test of intelligence (that I myself would not pass).

1.8% more of us have voted for the Coalition than in 2007. 3.7% more than in 2007 have however voted for the Greens. The ALP has, according to the AEC,won more of the 2PP vote - 50.67% to the LNP's 49.33%
I suspect,despite the hysteria thrown at the electorate by the Coalition, the overall temper of Oz politics has just shifted a little leftward. And has also grown up a bit. Minority governments retrieve some of the idea of participation back from the professional political elites who have come to dominate all major parties. And I also think even if Abbott can persuade Windsor and Katter to support him (and I wouldnt put a fiver on that), the Coalition will struggle and struggle mightily too with a Green BOP in the Senate.

Bernice, indeed. The only time Penny Wong seemed to be even remotely enjoying herself on the teeve last night was when she said she was looking forward to watching Tony Abbott trying to negotiate with Sarah Hanson-Young.
Everyone got what they deserved unfortunately, except us.
Someone on LP pointed out that if Abbott gets the job, he'll have to be dealing with a gay man all the time. (Scary) Good luck with Abbott talking with the Greens. I'd like to see that.
